The department was established in1962 and is the first in the country to institute Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degree course in Chemical Engineering.

CAPACITY, MERIT & ELIGIBILITY:-

The Department of Chemical Engineering, for its Bachelor's Degree course, offers a total of about 62 seats per yearly session, out of which about 43 seats are for open merit Punjab domicile category 'A'.

Merit wise the department stands at 3rd - 4th position.

A candidate applying for a seat for admission to the department's Bachelor's course must have passed his/her Intermediate Examination with Pre-Engineering subjects, or any other equivalent examination as recognized by the University. A candidate applying on the basis of B.Sc. Degree must have passed his/her Bachelor's with Chemistry as major.

COURSES:-

The department offers courses of study leading to following degrees.

1) Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.

2) Master of Science in Chemical Engineering.

3) Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.

The Bachelor's Degree course is of 4 years duration.

The Master's course is offered both on full-time and part-time basis. The full time course is of one year duration, divided in four terms of four months each. The part time course is of two year duration and is meant for in service chemical engineers. The Master's course offers following specialization courses:

a) Environmental Engineering.

b) Biochemical Engineering.

c) Computer Aided Design.

d) Process Engineering.

For Ph.D. degree students undertake supervised research work for a minimum period of three years.

LABORATORIES & OTHER FACILITIES:-

The department has well equipped and well maintained laboratories in following fields.

1) Mass Transfer.

2) Fluid Flow.

3) Process Heat Transfer.

4) Particle Technology.

5) Chemical Processes.

6) Computer Applications.

7) Instrumentation & Control.

8) Chemical Reactor Design.

The department has a computer center equipped with latest computing facilities. Recently a multi-user, Inter-active, Time sharing operation system has been installed for the development of Chemical Engineering Software to be used by the students in their class work.

The department has a library with a large stock of text books, hand books, journals and research dissertations.

 The department's administration also arranges study tours and inspection trips, which enable students to visit industrial plants and projects of national importance in Chemical Engineering.

LIAISON WITH CHEMICAL INDUSTRY:-

The department assigns great importance to establish a continuing interaction with the Chemical Industry. As the result the department developed constructive links with some of the major organizations of Pakistan.

RESEARCH & ADVISORY SERVICES:-

The department is engaged in number of research projects of industrial and theoretical significance in areas such as pollution control, energy management, process development, unit operations and process simulation etc. The outcome of research is regularly published in journals of repute and receives recognition from the International community of chemical engineers.

 The department also offers a variety of advisory and consultancy services to the local industry and entrepreneurs.
