The Department of Civil Engineering was established in 1939 as part of the Maclagan Engineering college, Lahore. Currently it has a total enrollment of about more than 1000 students. The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the oldest in the country and the region and offers a high level of quality courses.

CAPACITY, MERIT & ELIGIBILITY:-

The Department of Civil Engineering offers every year about a total of 200 seats for B.Sc. Degree course, out of which a total of about 153 seats are for open merit punjab domicile category.

Merit wise the department stands at 3 - 4th position

The eligibility for the department is the same as for any other department ,for candidates applying for B.Sc. reserved seats should have completed their B.Sc. Degree in the subjects of Physics & Mathematics as major.

COURSES:-

The Department of civil Engineering, one of the best in the region, offers the following courses of studies;

a) Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.

b) Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with specialization in:

1. Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering.

2. Structural Engineering  &

3. Hydraulics & Irrigation Engineering.

c) Ph.D. Degree in Civil Engineering.

The Bachelor's Degree constitute a total period of 4 Years & Master's Degree is of 2 Years part time study.

Curriculum for Bachelor's Degree:-

In Bachelor's Degree, to foster the creative abilities, the students are assigned projects on design  construction or laboratory investigations for self-directed execution. The class room & laboratory work is supplemented with instructional tours to acquaint students with the civil Engineering projects of national importance & survey camp where they plan and execute surveys of large areas independently.

Curriculum for Master's Degree:-

The Master's Degree course consists of lectures, design, office work, laboratory investigation & research.

LABORATORIES & OTHER FACILITIES:-

The department has one of the best and well-equipped laboratories to meet the challenges of the modern world of Civil engineering, these laboratories include:

1. Computer Laboratory.

2. Concrete Laboratories.

3. Highway Engineering Laboratories.

4. Hydraulics & Irrigation Engineering Laboratories.

5. Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering Laboratories.

6. Strength of Materials Laboratory.

7. Surveying Laboratory.

8. Test Floor Laboratory.

The Civil Engineering Department has also in collaboration with NESPAK has established a standard base line at the UET campus.

RESEARCH SERVICES:-

The Department has adequate research facilities for the post graduate students and the faculty. The teachers are engaged in a variety of research programmes some of which relate to:

Low-cost Housing, use of Indigenous materials, soil stability, prestressing techniques, seepage, control of water logging & salinity & treatment of industrial waste & development of Computer Software for Civil Engineering.

ADVISORY SERVICES:-

Because of the civil engineering expertise that the faculty provides, organizations from the public & the private sectors frequently approach the department for consultancy & advisory services.
