Faculty List Department Contacts The Department of Computer Science is one of the most prominent & the oldest Computer education center in the country.
The Computer Science Department, UET, Lahore. BRIEF HISTORY:- Established as a separate department in 1991, its history dates back to the year 1968, when the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore was privileged to be the first Pakistani University to setup a Computer Center. In 1970 Computer Programming was introduced in the B.Sc. courses of Civil, Electrical & Mechanical Engineering, later it was extended to all the disciplines. A Bachelor's Degree course in Computer Science was started in 1976. In 1978, this programme was upgraded to a Master's Degree. The BCS (Hons) has been introduced in 1999. CAPACITY, MERIT & ELIGIBILITY:- The Department of Computer Science for BCS(Hons.) offers a total of 54 seats per session, out of which 50 seats are for open merit Punjab domicile category 'A'. Merit wise the department is different from the engineering courses, so after engineering courses it is the merit wise top most course offered by the University. The candidate applying for a seat in BCS(Hons) must have passed his/her Intermediate with Pre-Engineering Subjects or with Physics, Mathematics & Computer Science(Computer Science Group)...or should have passed any other equivalent examination as recognized by the University. COURSES:- The Department offers following academic programmes: a) BCS (Hons.): A 4 Year Bachelor's Degree (with Honours) in Computer Science. b) M.Sc.: A 2-Year (four term) Master's Degree in Computer Science with specialization in: 1. Software Engineering. LABORATORIES & OTHER FACILITIES:-
With the expansion in academic programmes, the Computer Laboratories in the department have also increased several times in number spread over three different buildings. One of the buildings houses the Information Technology Center. The department as the nucleus of computer education in the University. The department provides a comprehensive range of facilities necessary for computer use & a library of programmes & packages for solving Scientific, Engineering, Commercial & social problems. RESEARCH:- Research is actively pursued by the staff & the postgraduate students in the department, & the work has been published in various national & international journals. The members of faculty also provide advisory services to other institutions & organizations.
