The Department of Electrical engineering, famous for offering the best Electrical Engineering courses on the under-graduate & post-graduate level today, with one of the most qualified faculty in Pakistan. The Department was established in 1923 as a part of the Maclagan Engineering College.
CAPACITY, MERIT & ELIGIBILITY:-
The Department currently has a total enrollment of about 1100 students. It offers per session a total of about 250 seats, out of which about 160 seats are for open merit Punjab domicile category 'A'.
Merit wise the department stands at 1st position.
A candidate applying for a seat in the Electrical Engineering department for Bachelor's Courses, should have passed his/her Intermediate with Pre-Engineering subjects or should have passed any other equivalent examination as recognized by the University. For a candidate applying on the basis of Bachelors of Science Degree should have passed his/her B.Sc. with Physics & Mathematics.
COURSES:-
The department offers following courses of studies:
a) Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with options for:
1. Power.
2. Electronics & Communications.
3. Computer Engineering.
b) Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in:
1. Power Engineering.
2. Electronics Engineering.
3. Computer Engineering.
4. Control Systems Engineering.
c) Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering.
LABORATORIES & OTHER FACILITIES:-
The department has one of the best well equipped laboratories in the country, the names of which are as follows:
1. Electrical Machines & Standards.
2. Measurements & Instruments.
3. High Voltage.
4. Applied Electricity.
5. Power Systems.
6. Microwaves.
7. Electronics.
8. Industrial Electronics.
9. Electronics Systems.
10. Communication Engineering.
11. Control Systems.
12. Digital Systems.
13. Postgraduate Research.
14. Digital Signal Processing.
15. Micro-Computers.

17. Computers Laboratory.
The Department also offers assistantships to the full-time M.Sc. Engineering. Assistantships are provided by the University Grants Commission, Ministry of Science & Technology and various other offices.
RESEARCH & ADVISORY SERVICES:-
Research work being carried out at the department has direct bearing on the needs of national industry. The department also offers consultancy services & testing facilities to local manufacturers of electrical and electronics equipment.
A number of Research papers are produced every year by faculty members and postgraduate students. These are normally published in major national & international journals.
The department has a Research Laboratory & an up to date library. The Department also arranges frequent seminars & workshops in various areas of electrical, electronics, computer & control engineering. These seminars are delivered by prominent researchers from home & abroad.
