The Department of Metallurgical Engineering & Material Sciences, which has given birth to one of the greatest Metallurgy Scientists of Pakistan, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan thus fulfilling and proving  its motto "WE AIM HIGH" . The Department was established in 1965 & today it has a total capacity of about 190-200 students.

CAPACITY, MERIT & ELIGIBILITY:-

 The department of Metallurgical Engineering offers each Year a total of about 50 seats for BSc. classes , out of which about 44 seats are for Open Merit Punjab Domicile Category.

Merit wise the department stands at 7 - 8th position.

The Candidate applying for a seat in the department should have passed his FSc. or , and BSc. examination from a recognized education or technical board, or he/she should have given an equivalent examination as recognized by the University.

COURSES:-

 The department offers the following courses:-

 a)  Bachelors Degree course in Metallurgical Engineering & Material Sciences.

b)  Masters Degree course in Metallurgical Engineering.

c)  Ph.D. Degree course in Metallurgical Engineering.

The Bachelors Degree course is of 4 Years. The Masters Degree course is conducted on a part time and full time basis and is of two years and one year duration respectively.

B.Sc. &  M.Sc.  Curriculum:-

 The Bachelor's Degree Curriculum includes a wide variety of subjects, ranging from extractive metallurgy or industrial & physical metallurgy to the science of materials. In Order to produce graduates of optimal value for the industry the emphasis is laid on their exposure to an integrated body of knowledge based on Mathematics, Chemistry, Engineering, Economics & management.

 The Master's Degree Curriculum includes courses in Extraction processes, Physical Metallurgy, Material Science, Mechanical Metallurgy, Solidification, Corrosion & Industrial Management. It is Designed primarily for graduate metallurgical engineers working in industry or research organizations.

LABORATORY & OTHER FACILITIES:-

The Department of Metallurgical Engineering has well equipped laboratories for chemical and instrumental analysis, Corrosion engineering melting and casting of metals, inspection & testing, welding, heat treatment & metallography. It also has a modestly sized library with over six hundred text books, hand books & reference books & journals for the faculty members and the students.

RESEARCH & ADVISORY SERVICES:-

The Faculty members are actively engaged in research and present their papers in national and international conferences, seminars and symposia on metallurgical topics and issues are held regularly.

The Faculty members maintain interaction with the industry which avails their advisory services in inspection and testing, alloy development, melting and casting, heat treatment, metallographic studies & extraction of ferrous, non-ferrous metals & corrosion prevention.
